Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

In the above video, Dr Oz (An American Doctor who hosts the above show) and his guests discuss the merits of using Pulsed Electromagnetic fields to treat pain and joint irritation.
He claims that this treatment will cause almost any form of bodily pain to subside by opening up a steady blood flow to the affected area by breaking up clumps of red blood cells. Over the course of the show, several guests boast the benefits of this therapy.

Dr. James, a world class pain specialist, claims that the Electromagnetic pulse will affect the nerve cells. Seeming as nerve cells send information via electrical currents, Dr. James says each pulse will cause these electrical currents to alter, "quieting" them and lessening the pain you feel from each cell, all whilst the increased blood flow quickens the healing.

Next, Mike, a police officer explains how he used to suffer from chronic back pains, which some days would render him unable to work. After trying everything from chiropractors to prescription drugs, all of which provided no relief from his pain, Mike tried an Electromagnetic Pulse generator. According to him, the pain became more manageable almost instantly and after 8 weeks, the pain was all but gone.

A little later in the video, a Knee pad is shown, this Knee pad has a small built in Electromagnetic Generator which sends low power pulses into the immediate area at intermittent times. Erica (The wearer) states that since wearing the knee pad, the amount of pain she feels in the area has diminished significantly.

William Pawluk, MD also advocates use of the Knee pad, and by extension Electromagnetic Pulse Therapy. He also explains how the knee pad is FDA approved, showing that medical experts can see the use of these methods.

This video shows the steady improvement of a patient with Parkinson's disease (Parkinson's disease is a disorder of the brain that leads to shaking (tremors) and difficulty with walking, movement, and coordination), over the course of this video you are shown the patients advancement in Electromagnetic Pulse therapy.

As the therapy begins, the Patient shows the typical symptoms of Parkinson's, slow, stiff movement and delayed reaction times. Slowly however, as the therapy continues he is shown to slowly regain the use of his physical faculties.
Beginning with a simple movement of the toes, the patient shows that his ability to move is steadily returning to him. Over time his movements become much smoother, his steps seem to come easier to him and his general health is shown to improve.

Combined with the video involving Dr. Oz, one could surmise that Electromagnetic Pulse therapy is showing a definite positive effect on the human body. But one should ask, is this doing all the good it claims to be doing? After all the majority of this blog has been going over how electromagnetic fields can damage the body and weaken the cell, without further investigation, one cannot form a full opinion.
So keep an eye out for the next entry were I will evaluate the pros and cons of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy.
