We often spend time in the same place at work, home or school, repeating the same function for many hours in a day. Many of these functions bring us in close if not constant range of electromagnetic frequency (EMF) radiation. Low frequency waves of energy that many experts believe to be producing physical ailments in those who are ‘sensitive’.
As technology advances and exposure to mobile phones and wireless communication devices increase we are all more and more at risk. But what can we do to alleviate the cumulative effect of radiation on our bodies? Methods are available – see guides below - that will help reduce our exposure however avoiding man-made EMF radiation completely is near impossible. NS Health have recently released a range of personal radiation protection products called Floww into Australia that might just hold the answer.
First, lets look at ways we can reduce exposure and protect ourselves, friends and family.

- Reduce your exposure to power, cables and electronic devices
- Keep screens and computers as far away as possible
- Turn off all devices when they are not in use
- Avoid using laptop computers or tablets on the lap, place on a table or other hard surface
- Avoid fluorescent and energy-efficient bulbs, and/or lights with transformers or dimmer switches
- Locate homes and place of business away from high-power lines and mobile phone masts/towers where possible
Avoid using wireless communication (wi-fi)
- Evaluate what devices are connected using wi-fi that can be connected using cables instead, disable the wireless part of the router
- If you must use a wi-fi modem, do not position near people
- Turn off wi-fi on laptops, smart phones and tablets when not accessing the web
Limit the use of mobile and cordless phones
The provisional results of a study commissioned by the World Health Organisation (WHO) confirm that there is enough evidence to consider exposure to mobile phone radiation as ‘possibly carcinogenic to humans’. The scientists say that there are not enough long-term studies to decisively say one way or another whether mobile phone radiation causes cancer. However, there is enough data to show connections between exposure and health risks for consumers to be concerned. Careful use of mobile phones may help to prevent related radiation symptoms:
- Use the speaker function on the phone rather than hold against your head
- Use mobiles and cordless phones as little as possible – keep the calls short or ‘text’
- Do not keep a mobile phone on your body (eg in pocket)
- Wait for a call to connect before placing near your head/body
- Avoid the use of wireless headsets
- Avoid the use of wired headset – a regular wired headset has been found to intensify radiation into the ear canal. The wire transmits not only the radiation from the mobile phone but also serves as an antenna attracting EMFs from the surroundings
- Use corded telephones where possible. If not, locate the charging base for the wireless telephone network away from work areas and people
- Do not use mobile phones in enclosed metal spaces such as vehicles or elevators, as the devices need more power to establish connection, plus the metal enclosure acts as a Faraday cage trapping the radiation, reflecting it back onto the occupants
- Do not make a call when the signal strength is one bar or less
- Use only mobile phones with a low SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) – find out more about SAR
Keep your bedroom a radiation-free zone
Your body needs to be able to rest and recuperate while you sleep. This can only happen if your body is not disturbed by radiation. The human body also appears to be more susceptible to radiation while we sleep. And since most of us tend to sleep for six to eight hours a night, your body would be exposed to bedroom radiation for a considerable period, so ensure that your bedroom is a ‘radiation-free zone’.
- Leave your mobile phone outside your bedroom
- Watch television in a room other than the bedroom
- Move your radio alarm clock away from the head of the bed
- Remove power cords from sockets wherever possible
- Forget about an electrically adjustable bed or a waterbed
- Remove any electric blankets
Mobile phone radiation (and wireless radiation in general) poses an extreme public health risk that may take years to become fully realised. Some experts say that if estimates are correct, then we are on the verge of a health crisis that could cripple our current health infrastructure. Let’s take steps to protect ourselves now rather than wait until it is too late to act.
As well as these radiation prevention measures you can transform the remaining harmful radiation into a different wavelength which is acceptable for your body cells. To accomplish this visit the NS Health personal radiation protection products page and learn more about Floww radiation protection products.
