Saftey advice regarding children and exposure to wireless radiation

Over the last few years more and more evidence has been gathered detailing the risks associated with EMF and radiation, now reaching a point where countries around the globe are issuing out safety advice sheets detailing how to best avoid and minimise exposure to wireless radiation.

The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, is the government agency that sets the standard for exposure to wireless radiation.
They have recently published new advice as of updated in june 2013 to help reduce children exposure to wireless radiation. their fact sheet 14 states "Due to the lack of scientific evidence on mobile and cordless phones use by children ARPANSA’s recommends the parents encourage children to limit their exposure"
Many other household wireless devices use RF EME to communicate , including

  • Wireless computer networks
  • Audio-visual transmitters
  • Wireless security cameras
  • Baby monitors

Currently standards are only set against thermal effects, this protects humans against heating injury in a short amount of time period. However ARPANSA’s Previous fact sheet 13 states

"Some research has indicated that non-thermal effects resulting from low level RF exposure may also occur. However, the existence of these effects and their implications has not been sufficiently established to allow for them in the Standard"
Because the current safety standards do Not account for long term biological effects of and
Prolonged low-level exposure we should be taking ARPANSA’s practical advice to reduce exposure to children. Scientist know that radiation from mobile phone penetrates the human body, children are more vulnerable as they have thinner skulls and sill suffer a longer lifetime of exposure than adults today.
ARPANSA acknowledges that “This technology is very new and it's impossible to be completely sure there isn’t some risk. This is particularly true for children where there is little research evidence.

So if you're concerned about mobile phone what about wifi and the wireless radiation emitted from these devices? Wifi uses similar frequencies as mobile phones. Lets compare the radiation emitted by these different devices. The official SAR values are measurements of the rates of which radio frequency (electro magnetic energy) is absorbed by the human body from wireless devices. These SARs values are based on a short 6 minuet average temperature measurement of a liquid filled model of an adult head.

The SAR value of the iPad on wifi is higher than most phones, and the higher the value the more RF EMR energy is absorbed by the human body. In a real life test an iPhone and an iPad were measured using an RF EMF meter. First the iPhone a call was put through and the phone was put on “talk mode” the meter peaked at 19 with a continues signal for the duration of the call. When the iPad was tested it showed a much higher reading with a peak of 70, that's over three times higher than the iPhone. So how much time do we end up using these wifi enabled tablets, well if you're using it for playing games or surfing the internet then I could potentially be for hours every day. This kind of exposure could be causing a serious health risk to you and your family and as the saying goes, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
