How many of you are guilty of texting or messing around on your phone while out with friends, coworkers or family? While you know that it's not polite and conveys a lack of interest the company that surrounds you, you somehow justify it to yourself: "Only this one text," "This work email is really important," etc., etc.
Well, it appears a bunch of techies have come the rescue and designed a beer glass that only stands up straight with a phone underneath it.
The Offline Glass, created by advertising agency Fischer & Friends, encourages folks to come back to real life and engage with humanity. It looks like your average beer glass, except that a wedge on the bottom prevents it from sitting straight without a phone to level it out.
So far, the glass is only available at Salve Jorge bar in San Paolo, Brazil whose above commercial shows how it works.
"The Offline Glass embodies this exactly. It is an invitation for people to come here, after the daily battle, turn off the online world, chat with friends and live in the reality around them, at least for a few hours," bar co-owner Wanderley Romano tells the Telegraph.
But as tech magazines have pointed out, patrons will likely feel uncomfortable placing a pint of liquid with condensation on top of their smartphone.
And then there's the issue of whether the glass fits all models of cell phones, especially ones in cases that become thicker. It could make for a potentially awkward spill.
But if you think this glass is weird, you should check out some of the others on the market.
How about a glass that shows a dog peeing on a fire hydrant? Or a wine glass in the shape of arteries?
Not weird enough for you? Try the wine glass inside a beer mug for those you who want to hold a comfortable mug, but like wine and the look that accompanies it.
