What is NOMOPHOBIA?

What if you have no mobile with you? We know you can’t even imagine such a situation! A recent survey says that 90 percent of people, aged less than 30 years admit to be suffering from the new age phenomenon called  Nomophobia, or in other words “the fear of a mobile-less life”. Telecom giant Cisco conducted a survey on 3800 people in Australia and pointed out that 9 out of 10 people, categorized under 30 years of age, were addicted to their smartphones and become anxious when their phone went missing.
Nomophobia on the rise; 90% of people aged under 30 years can’t live without their smartphones
Cisco chief technology officer Kevin Bloch has been quoted as saying that 20 percent of the people text while driving thus indicating the addictive, compulsive behavior developed through the use of smartphones.
For a majority under 30, smartphones have become a part of  their life – or they have become their life itself. For them, smartphones are a must right from the moment they wake up till they fall asleep.
Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg, official adviser to the Queensland Government on Computer Safety, says this high wavelength love with smartphones is both enabling and crippling at the same time. He adds that people use their devices at least once every 10 minutes for checking texts, emails and social media. That makes it count 96 times per day minus the 8 hours (approximate) of sleep.
Are you one of those with Nomophobia?
